Terra Founder Do Kwon Released in Montenegro, Awaits Extradition Decision
The Supreme Court's decision to delay Kwon's extradition to South Korea, in response to objections from local prosecutors, has injected further complexity.
Former Terraform Labs CEO, Do Kwon, finds himself confined to a reception center for foreigners in Montenegro following the conclusion of his prison sentence on March 23, according to reports from Montenegro's Vijesti news. The transition saw Kwon undergo a five-hour interrogation by a local inspector before being relocated to the camp.
Legal representatives of Kwon, notably lawyer Goran Rodić, promptly labeled these actions as illegal, vowing to challenge the move in the Administrative Court. According to Rodić, the South Korean citizen should have been granted his freedom following the completion of his prison term and allowed to await extradition proceedings.
"From nine to two in the afternoon, there was an illegal treatment in the Police Department against our client, who, according to the court's decision, was supposed to wait for the extradition procedure and defend himself from freedom," Rodić asserted.
Montenegro's legal system has witnessed fluctuations in Kwon's extradition proceedings. The Supreme Court's decision to delay Kwon's extradition to South Korea, in response to objections from local prosecutors, has injected further complexity. Allegations of procedural missteps have cast doubt on the legality of the process, leading to a reconsideration of the initial decision to extradite Kwon to the U.S., a move later overturned on appeal.
In the complex legal saga, the fate of Do Kwon hangs in the balance, caught between the demands of two nations seeking his extradition. As legal proceedings unfold, Kwon remains ensconced in uncertainty, awaiting resolution in a legal quagmire with no clear end in sight.
