Uniswap, the decentralized exchange (DEX) platform, has announced its forthcoming web extension for its native wallet, aiming to streamline user experience and accessibility.

Uniswap revealed that a waitlist is now open for users who have secured a uni.eth username. Access to the Uniswap Extension Beta will be granted in the order of username claims, providing an organized rollout process for interested users.

Similar to existing self-custody wallets like MetaMask, the Uniswap Wallet extension will empower users to conduct various transactions directly from their web browsers. This includes sending, receiving, buying, and swapping a range of tokens and altcoins seamlessly.

The uni.eth domain, facilitated by the Ethereum Name Service, allows users to convert their 0x addresses into user-friendly usernames. Notably, over 100,000 uni.eth subdomains have already been claimed as of February 25, indicating strong interest and uptake within the community.

Amid recent developments, Uniswap's native token has surged by over 80% in value, buoyed by a proposal advocating for protocol fee rewards for users. The proposal, put forth by Uniswap Foundation's governance lead, Erin Koen, aims to incentivize UNI holders who stake and delegate their tokens.

Koen emphasized the proposal's commitment to maintaining the immutability of the Uniswap DEX, prioritizing security optimization, and preserving the platform's experimental capabilities. By removing potential vulnerabilities associated with protocol upgrades, such as bugs and hacking risks, the proposal seeks to enhance the long-term security of stakeholders.

Ongoing discussions are underway regarding the proposal's implementation, with community feedback and input shaping its final form. Uniswap's plans also include the launch of its V4 DEX in Q3 2024, coinciding with a significant Ethereum network upgrade.

As Uniswap continues to evolve and innovate within the decentralized finance (DeFi) landscape, the introduction of its web wallet extension signifies a step towards enhancing accessibility and user engagement within the ecosystem.
