AI Graphic Design Startup Recraft Secures $12M in Series A Funding
London-based Recraft, a generative AI graphic design startup, raises $12 million in a Series A funding round led by Khosla Ventures and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman. The investment will support Recraft's mission to advance generative capabilities for professional creators.
Recraft, a London-based startup offering an AI-powered graphic design generator, has successfully raised $12 million in a Series A funding round. Led by Khosla Ventures and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, the investment underscores Recraft's commitment to advancing generative capabilities for professional creators.
Founded in 2022 by Anna Veronika Dorogush, the creator of the CatBoost open-source gradient boosting library, Recraft has stand out by offering the unique ability to generate both raster and vector files. It boasts superior gradients compared to competitors and provides convenient presets for various design elements, including vector illustrations, raster illustrations, 3D art, and icon presets. In just eight months since its launch, Recraft has garnered over 300,000 users.
Unlike other AI-based art creation tools, Recraft focuses on providing professional graphic designers with a web platform that allows users to generate both raster and vector files. Users can input text prompts to create illustrations, 3D images, logos, and icons. The platform offers additional tools for users to control and modify AI-generated designs, including adjusting size, style, geometry of icons, lines, color palette, and background.
Recraft's goal is to utilize the Series A funding to enhance its machine learning capabilities and train its proprietary foundation model. This model aims to generate improved style-consistent design elements, sophisticated imagery, and graphic designs. The company plans to introduce features such as visual referencing with brand imagery for better style control and the production of graphic designs combining text and images.
Anna Veronika Dorogush emphasized that Recraft was created to meet the demands of professional design, generating consistent style images and high-quality vector illustrations suitable for various applications, including advertising, digital marketing assets, and iconography. The development of Recraft's foundation model is expected to further improve the quality and consistency of AI-generated graphic design.
Nikita Shamgunov, Partner at lead investor Khosla Ventures, highlighted Recraft's ability to deliver on professional workflows and its in-house built foundation models, expressing excitement about leading the Series A round.
As the market for design-centric generative AI is projected to grow significantly, Recraft aims to solidify its position by offering unique features tailored for professional graphic designers. The funding round positions Recraft to elevate its capabilities and contribute to the evolving landscape of AI-enabled graphic design.
