Anthropic’s Claude Reaches $1M In Mobile App Revenue
The U.S. remains Claude’s largest market, contributing significantly to both downloads and revenue.
Anthropic's AI app, Claude, has hit a milestone by surpassing $1 million in gross mobile app revenue across iOS and Android platforms in just 16 weeks. This revenue achievement comes largely from U.S. users, who contributed nearly 50% of the total earnings, according to a news report by TechCrunch.
While this marks a notable success, Claude still lags far behind its major competitor, ChatGPT, in both downloads and revenue. ChatGPT ranks No. 1 in overall downloads and holds the 26th spot in revenue in the U.S. on iOS, while Claude only ranks 95th in downloads and 68th in revenue within the Productivity category.
Earlier in the year, Claude experienced a tepid market reception, pulling in just 157,000 global downloads during its first week compared to ChatGPT's 480,000 in its first five days of an iOS-only launch in the U.S. Despite this slower start, Claude outpaced other competitors like Microsoft’s Copilot and Perplexity in reaching the $1 million revenue mark, doing so faster than both of these AI apps, which took 19 and 22 weeks, respectively.
The U.S. remains Claude's largest market by downloads, accounting for 32.5% of total installs, followed by India, Japan, the U.K., and Germany. Together, these five markets make up over 57% of Claude’s global downloads. Similarly, in revenue, the U.S. leads with a 48.4% share, followed by Japan, Germany, the U.K., and South Korea, which together contribute 66.8% of Claude’s mobile revenue.
Despite this early success, Claude still faces significant challenges, especially with the anticipated launch of Apple Intelligence, which will allow Siri users to directly access ChatGPT on their iPhones. This move could further solidify ChatGPT’s dominance in the market, making it more difficult for Claude to compete.
