Baidu, China’s leading search engine giant, announced several new AI-powered applications at its annual Baidu World Conference, showcasing advancements in text-to-image generation and no-code software development tools. These updates represent a shift in Baidu’s focus toward commercializing its large language model (LLM) technology after two years of investment in artificial intelligence research.

Among the highlights, Baidu CEO Robin Li introduced I-RAG, a text-to-image generator that uses Baidu’s search capabilities to reduce the common "hallucination" problem in AI-generated visuals, which can sometimes include irrelevant or imaginary elements. Li reported significant growth in user engagement with the Ernie AI platform, which now handles 1.5 billion daily user queries and interactions, up from 200 million in May.

Baidu’s commercial approach is centered on AI agents that allow users to create custom applications, integrating AI technology into its product lineup and offering services through its cloud platform. Baidu also revealed Xiaodu-developed smart glasses equipped with an AI assistant that supports photo, video capture, and voice interactions, further showcasing Baidu’s expansion into hardware.

In addition, Baidu launched Miaoda, a no-code application that leverages LLM technology to help users develop software without extensive coding knowledge, broadening access to app creation.
