Captions, the video editing app backed by prominent investors such as a16z, Kleiner Perkins, and Sequoia Capital, has unveiled an AI-powered editing feature. This innovative tool can automatically upgrade raw videos by incorporating custom graphics, zooms, music, sound effects, transitions, and motion backgrounds tailored to the video's content. Presently, the feature is limited to supporting vertical videos featuring a single speaker.

If users don’t have suitable videos, they can create one using Captions’ AI avatars and then apply the AI edit feature. Gaurav Misra, the co-founder and CEO, stated that the aim is to simplify video creation, focusing on communication. Captions offer tools for video recording, AI-powered editing, and generative video creation using AI avatars.

Misra envisions these tools being beneficial for sales, marketing, and communication purposes. The app currently has 12 AI characters and plans to add more weekly, ultimately allowing users to create their own AI avatars. While AI simplifies video creation, there are concerns about content flooding the internet, potentially overshadowing creators who invest significant time in their work. Misra believes that quality content and unique messaging will still be key to standing out.
