Fal AI Secures $23 Million In Funding To Transform AI-Generated Media
The company currently allows model developers to handle moderation, but it has plans to enhance its in-house efforts.
Fal.ai, a platform specializing in AI-generated media, has raised $23 million in funding from investors including Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Black Forest Labs co-founder Robin Rombach, and Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas. The funding is split between a $14 million Series A led by Kindred Ventures and a $9 million seed round.
Founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur and Gorkem Yurtseven, Fal.ai provides infrastructure for running generative AI models and APIs for media generation in images, audio, and video. The company has grown rapidly, serving high-profile customers such as Photoroom, Freepik, and PlayHT, and has reached an annual run rate of nearly $10 million.
Fal.ai differentiates itself with scalable infrastructure and a focus on performance. The platform hosts models like Black Forest Labs' Flux, used in X’s chatbot Grok. While Fal.ai currently leaves moderation policies up to the companies using its platform, it plans to develop its content moderation efforts in the future.
The company is also working on improving its inference optimization product and establishing a research team. Notable backers include Vercel founder Guillermo Rauch, Balaji Srinivasan, and Hugging Face CTO Julien Chaumond.
