At its annual TechXchange event, IBM announced the release of Granite 3.0, its most advanced suite of AI models tailored for enterprise applications. The third-generation Granite models demonstrate strong performance across industry and academic benchmarks, offering transparency, flexibility, and safety. These models are released under the open-source Apache 2.0 license, The tech giant is taking an open-source approach with the new models, setting itself apart from competitors like Microsoft, which charges customers for access to its AI models.

The Granite 3.0 family includes several models optimized for general language tasks, safety guardrails, and time-series forecasting. A key highlight is the Granite Guardian 3.0 series, which focuses on providing advanced safety guardrails for AI applications, making it IBM's most comprehensive solution for responsible AI deployment.

IBM also introduced new "Granite Mixture-of-Experts" models, designed for efficient inference and low-latency operations, perfect for deployment in edge computing environments.

In addition, the updated Granite Time Series model has achieved state-of-the-art performance in zero- and few-shot forecasting, outperforming larger models from major AI competitors.

IBM is integrating the Granite models into its AI-powered delivery platform, Consulting Advantage, which helps 160,000 IBM consultants deliver faster solutions to clients across cloud transformation and business operations.

These new AI models are available for commercial use on IBM’s Watsonx platform and across platforms such as Nvidia's software stack and Google Cloud's Vertex AI Model Garden.

With the introduction of Granite 3.0, IBM is pushing forward the development of AI agents that can self-direct, reason, and solve complex business problems—marking a new era for enterprise AI applications.
