Instagram Unveils GenAI Background Editing Tool for Stories

Instagram has rolled out a cutting-edge generative AI-driven background editing tool for its U.S.-based users, marking a significant leap in creative content creation.
Ahmad Al-Dahle, the lead for generative AI at Meta, announced the launch on Threads, detailing how this innovative tool enables users to seamlessly modify image backgrounds through interactive Story prompts.
With a simple tap on the background editor icon, users are presented with an array of prompts like "On a red carpet," "Being chased by dinosaurs," and "Surrounded by puppies." Additionally, the tool allows users to devise their unique prompts, offering extensive creative control.
Once users share a Story featuring the newly altered background, others will notice a "Try it" sticker, inviting them to explore the image generation tool themselves.
In an earlier release this month, Meta expanded its suite of 28 AI-powered characters to all U.S.-based apps, including WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. This extension came with bolstered Bing search support and an enriched context window.
