Microsoft is gearing up to reveal its ambitious vision for AI-integrated PCs at the upcoming Build Developer Conference. With AI becoming increasingly integral to computing, Microsoft aims to leverage its Windows ownership to embed AI capabilities directly into PCs, potentially revolutionizing user experiences, according to a news report by CNBC.

CEO Satya Nadella's proclamation earlier this year underscored Microsoft's commitment to integrating AI as a core component of every PC. This move aligns with the company's broader strategy to harness AI across its ecosystem, from productivity software like Office to its search engine Bing.

At the heart of Microsoft's AI push is its Copilot chatbot assistant, already available in Bing and Office, which is expected to play a central role in enhancing Windows functionality. By showcasing how AI can enrich the PC experience, Microsoft aims to drive user engagement, increase the appeal of high-end PCs, and potentially boost search revenue.

Collaborating with leading chip manufacturers such as AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm, Microsoft plans to power AI tasks offline, enabling features like voice-based interactions with Copilot even without an internet connection. This entails integrating neural processing units (NPUs) alongside traditional central processing units (CPUs) to deliver unprecedented performance improvements, from real-time language translation to enhanced gaming experiences.

While Intel currently dominates the PC chip market, Qualcomm's Arm-based chips offer unique advantages such as longer battery life and cellular connectivity. Microsoft's sessions at Build are expected to shed light on how Windows runs on Qualcomm chips, potentially paving the way for a new era of Arm-based computing.

Beyond PCs, Microsoft is exploring how AI can extend to cloud-based solutions through sessions like "AI Everywhere" and "Azure AI Studio." These initiatives aim to empower developers to harness the power of AI for a wide range of applications, from generative AI models to custom chatbots tailored for specific business needs.
