OpenAI Launches GPT Store: A Marketplace for Custom AI-Powered Chatbots
This innovative initiative comes two months after the introduction of GPTs, during which users have already created a staggering 3 million custom versions of ChatGPT.
OpenAI has officially unveiled the GPT Store, an online marketplace for GPTs (Generative Pre-trained Transformers), offering a variety of custom chatbot applications powered by advanced text- and image-generating AI models such as GPT-4 and DALL-E 3. This move follows OpenAI's recent communication to developers about the impending launch.
The GPT Store is accessible through a new tab in the ChatGPT client on the web, presenting users with a curated selection of GPTs developed by both OpenAI's partners and the wider developer community. It features a community leaderboard showcasing popular and trending GPTs in categories like lifestyle, writing, research, programming, and education.
To access the GPT Store, users must subscribe to one of OpenAI's premium ChatGPT plans, including ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Enterprise, or the newly introduced ChatGPT Team.
OpenAI encourages users to contribute to the GPT Store by building and sharing their own GPTs, emphasizing the simplicity of the process that doesn't require coding skills. To share a GPT in the store, users need to save it for everyone and verify their Builder Profile, ensuring compliance with OpenAI's usage policies and GPT brand guidelines. To enhance accountability and adherence to policies, a comprehensive review system, combining both human and automated reviews, has been implemented. Users can also report GPTs that may raise concerns.
In the first quarter of the upcoming year, OpenAI plans to launch a GPT builder revenue program. U.S. builders will have the opportunity to earn based on user engagement with their GPTs, with specific criteria for payments to be detailed closer to the launch.
The GPT Store marks a significant step forward in the evolution of ChatGPT, fostering creativity, collaboration, and utility within the user community. OpenAI looks forward to witnessing the continued growth of custom ChatGPTs and the positive impact they bring to various domains.
