Reddit is set to introduce AI-generated summaries at the top of its search results, with plans to pilot AI-enhanced search pages. The initiative was announced by Reddit's co-founder and CEO, Steve Huffman, during a recent earnings call. Huffman explained that the feature is designed to "summarize and recommend content," which will assist users in delving deeper into discussions and exploring new communities within the platform, according to news reports by Techcrunch.

To power this feature, Reddit will use a combination of first-party and third-party technology. The experiment is set to begin later this year. This initiative follows Reddit's recent partnership with OpenAI, announced in May, which enables Reddit to leverage OpenAI’s large language models to build AI-powered features for users and moderators. The deal also grants OpenAI access to Reddit’s data. Additionally, Reddit signed a similar agreement with Google earlier this year.

During the earnings call, AI was a key focus, with Huffman emphasizing the triumph of Reddit's AI-driven language translation feature. He noted that France ranks as one of Reddit's "fastest-growing countries," and revealed plans to extend the translation feature to encompass German, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Reddit disclosed its quarterly earnings for the second time since its initial public offering. The platform reported an increase in weekly active users to 342.3 million, marking a 57% rise from the previous year. Additionally, Reddit's revenue climbed to $281.2 million, exceeding the Wall Street projections of $253.8 million.
